Aditya Chopra Wiki

Aditya Chopra is an Indian film producer, screenwriter, director and distributor. His directorial movies include Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Mohabbatein (2000) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). He is also the current chairman of India's, multi-national film, media and entertainment conglomerate, Yash Raj Films (YRF). He has written and produced commercially successful films under this banner like Veer-Zaara (2004), Hum Tum (2004), Fanaa (2006), Chak De! India (2007) and many more films. The Directorate of Film Festivals has awarded him the National Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema, on three separate years (1995, 2005, 2007) through the Government of India.

Biography

Aditya Chopra was born on 21 May 1971 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He did his schooling from Bombay Scottish School and his graduation from Hassaram Rijhumal College of Commerce and Economics with batchmates Karan Johar and Anil Thadani. In his childhood, Aditya was very shy and preferred to keep to himself and developed a keen interest in watching films and writing stories.

Family

Aditya Chopra is the eldest son of film-maker late Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra. He has one younger brother Uday Chopra, who is also a bollywood actor. He has three cousins Ravi Chopra, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Karan Johar. Aditya was married to Payal Khanna in 2001, but later they were divorced.

Career

Aditya has started his film making career at the age of 18 aiding as an assistant director, worked with his father for films like Chandni, Lamhe and Darr. After gaining a respectable amount of experience, he started independently at the age of 23, with all time blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The film has won the prestigious National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Chopra eventually went on to write the dialogues and the story for his father's 1997 blockbuster hit Dil To Pagal Hai. His next film as a director was Mohabbatein with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The film was also written and co-produced by Chopra and fared very well at the box office. In 2002 under the Yash Raj Films banner, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai movie was released, which did moderately well at the box office.
