Anil Kapoor is an Indian actor and producer who has appeared in many Bollywood films. He is also Internationally recognized for his contribution to Hollywood. Anil is often credited as being the 2nd biggest star of Bollywood during 80's, after Sanjay dutt. He has also been introduced in Tollywood with the lead role in Vamsa Vruksham (1980), biggest blockbuster hit film. He has won his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor category in Yash Chopra's Mashaal (1984). He was seen in Colors show '24 season 2'.

The extraordinary personality, Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1959 in Mumbai, India. He has attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School in Chembur, Mumbai and then St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He was a big fan of Bollywood films. People saw him as a mimic of the legendary showman Raj Kapoor. He could not clear the written examination of Pune Film Institute and joined Roshan Taneja's Acting school.

Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor will be playing father and son onscreen in a biopic on Abhinav Bindra, which is being helmed by Kannan Iyer. Harsh will essay the role of the Olympic shooter, while Anil will play the role of Abhinav's father, A.S.Bindra.

Anil Kapoor will also be seen alongwith Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Atul Manjrekar's upcoming movie - Fanney Khan. It also stars Rajkummar Rao and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. It is all set to release on 13 April 2018.


Anil Kapoor was born to a film producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor. His father and grandfather were Hindu Pathans from the city of Peshawar in Pakistan, and Anil describes himself as "Son of a Pathan". His elder brother Boney Kapoor is a film producer, while younger brother Sanjay Kapoor is an actor. He is also the brother-in-law to Bollywood actress Sridevi.

In 1984, he got married to Sunita Kapoor. Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor are his two daughters and has a son Harshvardhan. Rhea Kapoor is a producer and Sonam is a successful bollywood actress. Whereas son Harshvardhan has planned to make his debut in Bollywood.


Anil Kapoor made his Hindi film debut with Umesh Mehra's Hamare Tumhare (1979) in a small role. After playing a small role in Shakti (1982), he played his first leading role in Woh Saat Din (1983) which was directed by Bapu. He gained recognition in Bollywood with Yash Chopra's drama Mashaal (1984) as a Tapori, for which he won his first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. Anil Kapoor played a comic Tapori again in Karma (1986), the biggest hit of the year followed by many superhit movies like Janbaaz, Chameli Ki Shaadi, Beta and many more.

After acting in a lot of films, he turned as a producer in 2002 with the film 'Badhaai Ho Badhaai'. Later, along with being in the star cast, he produced My Wife's Murder (2005), and Gandhi - My Father (2007), which was awarded the National Film Award - Special Jury Award / Special Mention. He also got Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra's Tezaab (1988) and again in 1992 for 'Beta'.

Besides this he even tried singing and was playback singer in 1986 Bollywood comedy Chameli Ki Shaadi. Later, launched one single album "Welcome" as a co-singer with Salma Agha in 1986, scored by Bappi Lahiri. He was then a part of "Tere Bina Main Nahin Mere Bina Tu Nahin" song in the film Woh Saat Din and "I Love You" in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai - 2008.

Anil Kapoor has played the role of Jai Singh Rathore in 24 Season 2 which aired on Colors. The show also starred Sakshi Tanwar, Surveen Chawla, Rajesh Khera and many more in pivotal roles.

Awards, Achievements and Honours

Anil Kapoor has bagged many awards in his career so far including International Indian Film Academy Awards for his movies Biwi No.1 and Taal. In 1997, he was honored as "Nata Kalaratna" by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Anil Kapoor was also honoured with "Outstanding Achievement by an Indian Internationally" award in the year 2010. In 2011, he was given "Lalitha Kala Samrat" title by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. And, in 2012 he won Teacher's Global Indian Achiever Award.

International Debut

Anil got his first International role in Slumdog Millionaire(2008), directed by Danny Boyle. The movie won Academy Award and he also got Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. His performance in the 8th season of the action series 24 generated rave reviews from the American press. In 2011, he was seen in the action series Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
