Dona Ganguly WikiDona Ganguly is an Indian Bengali Odissi dancer. She took her dancing classes from Kelucharan Mohapatra. She has a dance troupe Diksha Manjari. She presented several dance programmes in the United Kingdom and Canada so on. She also performed with great success at the Eastwood Theater Hall Glasgow, Scotland along with a couple of shows in Central London during the summer of 2000. She has also gone to Singapore with her troupe organized by ICCR.
BiographyAmazing dancer Dona Ganguly was born as Dona Roy on August 22, 1976 in Behala, India. She has done her schooling from Loreto Convent School. At a very tender age of 3 years, she started leaning dance from Amala Shankar, wife of world famous Dancer Uday Shankar. She was invited to perform in the North American Bengali Conference in San Francisco as well as the 27th Bengali Conference held in Detroit in 2007 where she performed with her dance troupe.

Dancing CareerDona Ganguly has started learning dance from Amala Shankar when she was only 3 years old. Later she turned to Odissi under the guidance of Guru Giridhari Nayek. Her most significant development took place when she met Kelucharan Mohapatra and started taking dancing lessons from him. Under his guidance, she got opportunity to develop her skill which enabled to prove her talent in Odissi on a number of occasions in several programme held in India and abroad. At early stage of her career, in different programs, Mohapatra accompanied her many times with Pakhavaj. She is one of the few Odissi exponents who maintains pure guru Kelucharan Mahapatra gharana. Along with her performance she also teaches dance at her school Diksha manjari. She is the head of the Odissi department of Bharati Vidya Bhavan as well as Tecno India Schools. She is "A" graded artist of Doordarshan.
FamilyDona Ganguly was born into an affluent family to Sanjeev Roy and Swapna Roy. She is married to her childhood friend, the famous former Indian cricketer and captain Sourav Ganguly. The couple has one daughter Sana Ganguly.
Marriage/Love story/HusbandDona and Sourav Ganguly are the childhood friends. They both were neighbours and later have fallen in love when they are in teens. They both had their first meal at Mandarin, near the Dhakuria Lakes. Then she was 17 and he was 23 years old. There is revelry in between their families, so they din't accept their love. So they have got married with the help of friends is a formal Bengali marriage and she has turned into Dona Roy Ganguly. The day after their wedding, they left for the West Indies trip for a day. It was their first tour to the West Indies. He was in South Africa, when their daughter Sana was born. So her name was kept by Ganguly's friend.
Dance schoolDona Ganguly is running a dance school named Diksha Manjari. It's an institute of its own kind where all forms of Indian Classical Music, Dance, Songs and Instruments are taught. This institution was inaugurated by Lata Mangeshkar. It has capacity of more than 2000 students. Other than dancing, this institution has other departments like Yoga, Drawing, Karate and Swimming. She teaches Odissi herself. In October 2012, Dona choreographed Rabindranath Tagore's Shapmochan which she called it as a sombre dance drama.
