Navjot Singh Sidhu is former Indian cricketer. He is popularly called as Sidhu, who had his career as a cricketer from 1983 to 1999. He announced his retirement from cricket in December 1999. He played over 50 Test matches and over 100 ODIs scoring over 7,000 international runs. He has 27 centuries to his credit in an 18-year career. After retirement, he took up television commentary and re-started his career as a commentator for Nimbus sport when India toured Sri Lanka in 2001. Later he became a commentator with ESPN Star Sports. As a commentator, Sidhu was noted for his one-liners, which came to be known as "Sidhuisms" and regularly appears as a "cricket analyst" on various Indian news channels. He also figured as a judge on the television programme "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge". He is a contestant in Bigg Boss 6 and was the first contestant to enter the house, 2012.
BiographyNavjot Singh Sidhu was born on 20 October 1963 in Patiala, in state of Punjab, Indian. He has done his education in Mohindra College, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He is a qualified lawyer from law department of Punjabi University. He is the former Indian cricket batsman. After his retirement in 1999, he took up television commentary, political career and films. He has been praised by the Supreme Court for having high moral values as he resigned from his seat due to some legal problems. Later he became a commentator with ESPN Star Sports. Sidhu made a special appearance in the film Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. He has acted in a Punjabi movie Mera Pind, where he played the role of a NRI.

Cricket CareerNavjot Singh Sidhu was a very good opening batsman as well as a very good attacking batsman of spin bowling. His made his debut in Test cricket against the West Indies at Ahmedabad during 1983-84. But he was dropped after playing only two Tests. He made a sensational comeback in the Reliance World Cup in 1987, on Test side as a transformed batsman. He celebrated his return by scoring a century in the first Test against New Zealand at Bangalore. He did well in Pakistan in 1989, in New Zealand and in England in 1990 before temporarily losing his place in the team. But he forced his way back again during the 1993 England tour of India. In the 1996 tour of England, following a misunderstanding with the captain Azharuddin, he deserted the team and returned home. During the fag end of his career, Sidhu scored a double century against the West Indies in 1997. He retired from cricket in 1999.
Politial CareerSidhu won on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from the Amritsar seat in the Indian general elections, 2004. He was later forced to resign from his political position because he was convicted of homicide, but he won the by-election for his seat once he was cleared of the charges. After resigning due to a court case against him, he stood again after the ruling was stayed. He won a by-election with a good majority. In the 2009 general elections, he kept the Amritsar seat defeating Om Prakash Soni of INC by 6858 votes.
